I still think the whole political process is totally flawed anyway. I mean, how on earth can you distill your entire political view into one of two candidates? It's absurd. Same thing here. There was a good system outlined in an episode of "Yes, Prime Minister" where the government was basically comprised of locally elected representatives,

What's the deal with people turning stuff off when they go on holiday? People trust their electronics not to catch fire left unattended every day from 9 till 5. And what about the fridge? Is this appliance somehow immune to the evils of spontaneous electrical combustion? No one ever suspects the

Hi Joe, thanks for your advice. I'm not sure if I have the luxury of Virtualmin Pro, I'll have to look into that. And, to answer your question, the reason I'm moving from Virtualmin to cPanel is simply because I'm moving from one hosting company to another; the old provider was using Virtualmin

Oh, yeah, I forgot to mention that if cPanel mail users have actual user accounts (I'm not sure...they could also be in some sort of dedicated database, which would mean this suggestion won't work), you could also copy the encrypted passwords from the users on the Virtualmin system directly into the shadow file on the

I've never heard of anyone moving from Virtualmin to cPanel (but maybe folks wouldn't mention it to us, since it might hurt our feelings). But, I can tell you a few things about Virtualmin and the way it deals with mail users, and that might help you with the process. Virtualmin uses Postfix, with a

Phill, you are indeed in the fortunate position of being able to reach the off switch at the wall, so this probably wouldn't help you much! But for us, turning it off at the wall is so much hassle that we only ever bother when we're going away on holiday.
Phill said:
Sounds like a good idea. Although we currently leave all our TV style equipment (TV, DVD player, Freeview box, Hi-Fi) turned off when we don't use them. I.e., overnight we switch it all of at the wall, because they're on the same power strip it's just one switch. Once you're in the habit of turning it off,

I don't think it's easy to migrate mail accounts from one provider to another in one hit. We did it here in the last couple of weeks from a cPanel to a Qmail system but, because each has a different feature set (among other things) it was easier to set up all the mail accounts

Feisty's a little old now, though it's what I use, and I'm wussy about doing full version upgrades (because I've never done one that hasn't broken). Gutsy Gibbon and Hardy Heron have since come out, and Intrepid's release is imminent as well

Well it's not usually a problem on a Mac, Phill, because you rarely need to right-click anyway. A scroll wheel is definitely a fantastic invention though, and I'm enjoying having that back, but I don't think I've actually used the right mouse button all day so far!
Phill said:
You've been living without a scroll wheel? How have you managed to survive?!!! A scroll wheel is just about the most useful thing EVER. When it comes to mice, that is. I'm also not convinced about holding down CTRL when you want to "right-click"; I quite like the PC way of doing things!

Sounds like you need a Mighty Mouse, they've been around for a while and I know they're on Ebay. Three programmable buttons and a scroll wheel.

Hmmm, VPSing sounds like a good idea - although I assume you'd have to get quite familiar with the nuts and bolts of the software. (i.e. it's probably not all GUI Wizards. Well, it might be, but it won't be if anything goes wrong!) I don't think that will be a problem for you though, Matthew,
Dad said:
We use a VPS for our clients. I can send you a link and some comments if you're interested...

Oh don't worry Dad, the battery was still in when I went for a drive! I was hoping that driving around would recharge the battery, but it was so dead that half an hour just wasn't long enough to make any difference. Mini is back in my garage now, and hopefully will be

Rubber pipe... is there's enough length, chop a bit off the end first before you put the new jubilee clip on, it will make a better seal. Bump start... be careful, alternators don't like it when there's no battery to charge!

Rubber pipe? Clips? Bah. If you can't solve a problem with gaffa tape, you obviously haven't used enough.
